Liberty wreck:
The wreck of the Liberty, a US army transport ship torpedoed by a Japanese sub in 1942 near Lombok and towed to Tulamben, is one of the most popular dive sites in Bali. It lies in 30 m of water just 25 m offshore and can easily be reached from Puri Madha beach. The stern of the wreck is 5 m below the surface. The ship is more than 100 meters long and is broken into sections, allowing penetration. The wreck was beached at Tulamben to attempt to save its cargo of rubber and railroad parts, but the Japanese invasion prevented this. The 1963 eruption of Gunung Agung broke the ship in two and left it just off the shoreline.
